Join us nextfor the first-ever Movie Club discussion about The Ivory Game!Global Inheritance will be joined online by our good friend and respected conservationist Kate Ochsman. Kate is a conservationist and wildlife photographer. She believes in "art for a cause," and her photography and guiding work always has its basis in the conservation of wildlife and wild areas. Since 2013, Kate has been using storytelling, film, photography and social media to educate about the various wildlife conservation issues which impact rhino, elephants and lions throughout the African Continent.During this week's Movie Club discussion, she will reflect on how her experiences as a conservation-based Safari Guide in South Africa and her human-elephant conflict work with Elephant Human Relations Aid in the deserts of Namibia relate to the movie The Ivory Game. The movie discusses how ivory is a prized status symbol for middle-class Chinese and tells stories of how poachers in pursuit of the 'white gold' are slaughtering African elephants in record numbers. Filmmakers went undercover for 16 months, infiltrating and documenting the deep-rooted corruption at the heart of the global ivory trafficking crisis.
