Just weeks before Southern California felt the rising temps of a record-breaking heatwave in mid-October, the Oasis Water Bar and Rain Supreme exhibit brought a little bit of much needed hydration to Waterfest attendees in the San Gabriel Valley.
A collection of rain barrels, adorned by the talents of a collective of SoCal artists, were on display to inspire others about the Art of Saving Water. Oasis bartender-scientists poured shots of H2O, while sharing stories about where our water comes from today and where it might be sourced in the future. The menu included filtered rainwater, desalinated seawater, purified recycled water, local San Gabriel Tap, and melted glacier water.
Did you know? With just one inch of rain, the average home in Los Angeles could collect over 600 gallons of water (enough to fill ten of our Rain Supreme 60-gallon rain barrels). Did you also know? Orange County currently recycles 100 million gallons of water (enough for 850,000 residents) a day that is reused for the county's drinking supply.
With drought woes still looming in the state of California, rainwater collection and water recycling are one of many ways that we can become more water independent. With the help of the Oasis Water Bar and Rain Supreme initiatives, individuals can learn about how they too can master the Art of Saving Water.
